Su función es deprimir la base de la lengua para evitar que obstruya el flujo de aire hacia la laringe. Es una herramienta crítica en pediatría, especialmente durante la recuperación post-anestésica o en maniobras de reanimación básica donde el paciente no tiene reflejo nauseoso.
